What is an appraisal?

Your full-service solution for Certified Equine Appraisals,

An appraisal is the act of estimating cost, determining value, forecasting earnings, or providing a non-monetary opinion such as whether or not an item is genuine or fake based on supporting facts.

EquineUnlimited Equine Appraisal Service conducts business in accordance with the guidelines contained in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the American Society of Equine Appraisers (ASEA) Code of Ethics.

How much does an appraisal cost?

Much like attorneys, in the world of appraisals, you get what you pay for. Our valuations are used in court, for tax purposes and with insurance companies. You can be confident that your appraisal and your appraiser will hold up to the highest standards including litigation and the IRS. EquineUnlimited offers appraisal services from $400 to $1,200, depending on the client's need and project scope. Please allow us the opportunity to provide a free, no obligation, written quotation. What information is needed for the appraisal?

  • Purpose for appraisal

  • Copy of pedigree (preferably 4 generations)

  • Stallion: blood type, stud report, offspring

  • Mare: record of foals, sires of foals, sire's stud fee, show record of offspring, etc

  • Show record and winnings (if applicable)

  • Previous purchase details

  • Veterinarian certificate of health

  • Training record

  • Any other data or photos relevant to determining value

A complete appraisal will include a site visit which will involve a physical assessment and photographing of the subject equine.

How long does it take to get the appraisal report?
Your full-service solution for Certified Equine Appraisals,

After the completion of my physical inspection of the subject equine, within approximately 7 to 10 days, you will be presented with two professional, bound reports meeting USPAP standards that are admissable in court. A pre-purchase appraisal, however, may be completed sooner if necessary.

Factors That Do NOT Affect Your Horse’s Value

  • Emotional Attachment

  • Perceived Value

  • Direct or indirect costs of ownership (international shipping, maintenance, veterinary bills and financial needs)
